Water By The Spoonful by Quiara Alegría Hudes (Kennesaw State University)

Assistant Director

November 3-8, 2020

This completely virtual production combined livestream elements through StreamYard with actors being given their own green screen, lighting rig, and costumes to be used from their own homes as well as pre recorded mini films to overcome the challenges of intimacy and fighting while remaining online. The distance and disconnect from the audience aided in the connection to the characters in the chatrooms for a majority of the show and the different obstacles that kept them from each other.

Responsibilities included stepping in for director absence, actor coaching, blocking, and being a liaison with the dramaturgy team.

Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare (Community Arts Players of Suwanee)

Assistant Director

October 15-17, 2021

This adaptation of Romeo and Juliet was set in modern day Appalachia with the Montagues and Capulets having a Hatfield and McCoy feel. By placing the production outside, we harkened back to the original Shakespeare productions while updating the context to help better connect the audience to this classic tale of star crossed lovers.

I was responsible for actor coaching and blocking a few scenes as well as taking stage manager duties for rehearsals.

The Grunch: A New Children's Musical by Denver Casado & Betina Hershey

(Arrows Homeschool Academy)

Director

December 11, 2021

This spin on the The Grinch follows Rudy Grunch as she plots to end the theatre program at Whoover Academy. The children's show pays homage to great Broadway musical hits not only as a way to connect to audiences but to broaden the theatrical knowledge of the children in the production.

In addition to directing, I also served as a designer and teacher for this homeschool group. Through the direction of the show, I taught students the inner workings of theatre, acting and vocal techniques, and how to engage critically with literature.

The 8th Annual Coming Out Monologues (Kennesaw State University)

Co-Director

October 8-9, 2020

As part of a directing class, each student (myself included) directed a monologue about LGBTQ+ identities written by people in the KSU community. This virtual event was held live over zoom. The simplistic virtual stage reading, allowed us to explore frame to a great degree as well as the intricacies of scheduling and planning rehearsals.

The 24-Hour Play Festival (Kennesaw State University)

Director

January 23, 2021 and August 28, 2021

Productions were devised, developed, and produced within the span of 24 hours. Direction required fast paced critical thinking skills and the ability to easily adapt to sudden change. Along with directing, I aided in design, script revisions, dramaturgy, and musical compositions/orchestrations for both productions.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Actor's Express)

Assistant Director

July 20, 2023-August 20, 2023

In this rocking production of Hedwig, we had a core focus on gender euphoria. The rock aesthetic of the show allowed creative team, crew, actors, and band to dive deep into unfiltered and raw displays of identity. During the main rehearsal process, I assisted the team by aiding conflicts that arose from blocking in relation to the space and provided dramaturgical support to actors, giving them a frame to operate within while improving and building their characters during performances.

In addition to the main rehearsals, I led understudy rehearsals which culminated in a separate understudy performance which was directed by me. In collaboration with the stage managing apprentice, we organized and ran rehearsals separate from the main cast. While we used the main foundation the director, Quinn Xavier Hernandez, put in place, I worked with the actors to play within the limitations we had (different costumes and actor abilities) to create a unique showing of this production.
